Samuel Colt
Before Samuel Colt, there were already:
multi-shot firearms;
pistols with rotating cylinders;
pepperbox systems;
manual cylinder-indexing mechanisms.
In other words, the idea of a rotating cylinder had existed for a long time.
What Colt did — and this was revolutionary — was transform the concept into a truly practical, automated, repeatable, and industrialized system.
His real contribution was combining several existing ideas into a single functional and commercially viable mechanism.
